At Lakewood Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, general orthopaedic care is not our only specialty.

Dr. Gemas received his sports medicine fellowship training at The University of Miami, Florida. While in Miami he treated all varsity athletic teams and served as a fellow orthopaedic surgeon to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers professional football team. Playing college football himself with the Clemson Tigers and later serving as a certified athletic trainer, Dr. Gemas understands first hand the demands on the athlete and the importance of surgical technique and proper rehab. His sports background provides the experience to treat all levels and ages of athletes, as well as the weekend warrior. We are involved in many sports programs within the city's schools and perform hundreds of physicals every year. As a member of several sports medicine societies and associations, Dr. Gemas keeps up to date with the latest technologies with continuing education. This allows him to give the best possible care to his patients utilizing the latest in arthroscopic surgical techniques, creating less scarring and faster rehab results. Dr. Gemas has recently gained a subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine, one of 900 currently in the world.
